Welder Generator Site Preparation

Engine-driven welders combine fuel, exhaust, noise, electrical output and hot-work risks. Confirm the site plan before delivery.

Before the machine arrives

• Confirm whether petrol-powered equipment is allowed
• Provide an outdoor or properly controlled location away from openings and occupied areas
• Check vehicle access, unloading and secure storage
• Confirm welding current and auxiliary power requirements
• Plan fuel storage, fire controls and spill response
• Check local noise and working-hour restrictions
• Confirm earthing, RCD and distribution requirements with a competent person

During use

• Never operate an engine-driven generator in an enclosed or poorly ventilated space.
• Keep hot exhaust and fuel away from combustible materials.
• Use rated leads, plugs and distribution equipment.
• Carry out daily checks for fuel, oil, leaks, cable damage and abnormal operation.
• Stop the machine before refuelling and allow hot parts to cool.
• Keep a suitable fire extinguisher and follow the site hot-work permit.

Fuel and return

The handover record notes the fuel level. Return the machine at the agreed level and use only the specified fuel. Contaminated or incorrect fuel and avoidable running damage are chargeable.
